John Valby

John Valby is the kind of guy who is elusive most of the time. Those who have heard him also want to find out more, but don't know where or how to go about it. What makes this man so unique, interesting and different? Mr. Valby has the ability to mix his musical talent with a mad-cap variety of dirty ditties (Those songs your mother threatened to wash your mouth out with soap if she heard you singing them as a youngster), that few can resist laughing at. The repertoire is comprised of popular songs, limericks, moving classical arrangements and Valby originals. some of his best material is contributed on-the-spot from the audience.

The best way to describe John Valby is to blend the following performers together: Allan Sherman, Spike Jones, Lenny Bruce and Weird Al Yankovic, all topped off with the dirt of Redd Foxx, only better. His concerts generate a great deal of interest on college campuses, and are known may times only through underground type publicity. Mr. Valby's background started out innocently enough. As a teen-ager, he attended McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, New York. Valby attributes his love of music to his father, Richard, an accomplished violinist. The dirty singing didn't start until Mr. Valby got to Middlebury College in Vermont. Majoring in philosophy, he created a few compositions for his fraternity brothers, many of which are still being sung at midnight sessions today - as part of his legacy. One moment you might hear him singing about troop ships, the next might be a song parody. The performance continues with a stirring version of the Lone Ranger, moves on to an off-the-cuff limerick, and ends with a knock-knock joke unlike any you've ever heard.

Mr. Valby has build up quite an arsenal of albums for the true dirt fan with titles like: “What I Did on My Summer Vacation,” “A Mid-Summer's Night's Wet Dream,” “Dirt,” “Sit On a Happy Face,” “Give Me Dirt or Give Me Death,” “Beaver Fever” and many other titles that cannot be printed.
